Western Bulls might have stunned Mwamba with Kenya Commercial Bank, Nondescripts and Kenya Harlequin winning big, but the second round of Kenya Cup league matches belonged to Strathmore Leos who beat Blak Blad to move to the top of the table.

After stunning Nondies 19-17 in their previous outing, Western Bulls upheld their winning ways to stun Mwamba 16-15 in a fiercely contested match at Kakamega High School on Saturday.

KCB and Nondies were the biggest point scorers as they pounded their opponents into submission.
After managing a slim 13-3 win over newcomers Kabras Sugar last weekend, KCB went loose for a 41-3 lead at the drinks before crushing hosts Mombasa 90-3 while Nondies recovered from the defeat by Western Bulls to beat Catholic Monks 56-11 at Jamhuri Park.

Quins also claimed their second win on the trot by beating hosts Mean Machine 33-5 at the University of Nairobi grounds a weekend after handing Blak Blad a 32-7 defeat.

Strathmore and champions Nakuru could have struggled against Blak Blad and Kabras Sugar but their 35-15 and 13-10 victories respectively proved crucial.

BONUS POINTS

Following the weekend matches, Strathmore and Quins, who have claimed two bonus points each, are perched at the top with 10 points apiece but Mitch Ocholla’s Leos boast of a better aggregate.

Nakuru and KCB are level on nine points each but the reigning champions have a better aggregate. Western Bulls are fifth with eight points followed by Nondies, Impala and Mwamba with six points apiece.

Homeboyz have five points while Kabras are last with one point.

“The league has greatly improved and there are no push overs; our match against Blak Blad can attest to that,” said Strathmore coach Mitch Ocholla.
