Red-hot Kiragu wins Sigona Junior Open

Muthaiga Golf Club’s Daniel Kiragu wound up the 2021 junior golf season with another victory at the par 72 Sigona Golf Club course on Wednesday.

Playing off plus one handicap, Kiragu, a long hitter, carded a 54-hole total of 228 gross to claim the overall title in the Sigona Junior Open golf tournament held on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

This victory came just a week after his triumph in the Royal Junior Stroke Play tournament at Royal Nairobi.

Meanwhile, Eldoret Golf Club’s Danny Chelogoi clinched the Boys gross title with an all rounds total of 231.

On the other hand, Belinda Wanjiru also posted her second straight victory in the girls section where the nett title went to Bianca Ngecu on 222 nett.

The nett winner in the Boys category was Ephraim Mugisha with an impressive nett score of 216.

Andrew Gathere meanwhile fired gross 315, to claim the 11 years and under Boys title, with Cherono Kipkorir taking the second prize with a score of 324 gross.

The nett title in this category was won by Bradley Malitt on 237 nett.

Another Muthaiga player Junaid Manji again emerged the winner in the 12 to 14 years category where he posted 260 gross.

Making a come back in the junior golf scene after a year’s due to school commitments was Sanjana Sharma playing off handicap 11.

He posted 270 gross while Mitansh Thacker claimed the nett title with a score of 217 nett.

Ndumberi and Kiambu Golf Club’s Elvis Muigua led in the 15 to 18 years division where he posted gross 234 to win by three shots from Ngondo Kimemia who took the second prize after posting 237 gross.

Daksh Talwar won the nett title with a score of 218 nett.

In the 19 to 21 category, Zamin Nasser beat Vet Lab’s Steve Orinda on countback with 237 gross, and Kelvin Maina took the nett title with a score of 240 nett.

A total of 55 juniors turned up at Sigona. The series now take a break for the Christmas and New Year festivities with a action to resume in January.
