Victorious Kenya shift attention to Ethiopia

What you need to know:

  • Kenya, Burundi, Ethiopia and Somalia make up Group A while Group B has defending champions Uganda, Tanzania, Sudan and Zanzibar.

Kenya will be seeking a place in the semi-finals of the Cecafa Under-17 Championships Tuesday afternoon when they face Ethiopia in a Group A match at the Gitega Stadium in Gitega, Burundi.

This will be their second match of the tournament following Saturday’s 4-0 triumph over hosts Burundi in their opening match in Gitage.

A win over Ethiopia will guarantee Kenya a place in the semi-finals, regardless of their last group game against Somalia on Friday at the Muyinga Stadium in northern Burundi.

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) deputy technical director Michael Amenga and Kibera Black Stars coach Godfrey “Solo” Oduor are the coaches of the team.

The duo expressed confidence in the team’s ability to go all the way and lift the trophy. “We had adequate preparations for this task,” Oduor simply said.

Eight nations are participating in this year’s edition and are pooled in two groups of four.

Kenya, Burundi, Ethiopia and Somalia make up Group A while Group B has defending champions Uganda, Tanzania, Sudan and Zanzibar.

The top two teams from each pool will advance to the semi-finals. The final will be played on April 28 at Ngozi Stadium.
