Johanna claims hat trick in Sweden

Kenyan international midfielder Eric Johanna recorded a hat-trick in Vasalund’s 6-2 win over Lulea in a Swedish third tier match played on Sunday.

Linus Malmborg broke the deadlock a minute into the match before Johanna doubled the lead in the third minute and added his second in the ninth minute.

The former Mathare United man summed up his scoring touch at the quarter hour mark, his fourth goal in the team he joined in January.

Kenny Pavey and Malmborg scored the other goals, while Karl Pettersson and Gustav Ronnback, netted the two consolation for bottom placed Lulea.

With two games to the end of the season and lying in the relegation zone, Vasalund have so far amassed 25 points.

In the United States, defender David ‘Cheche’ Ochieng’ scored his maiden goal in the North American Soccer League in New York Cosmos’ 4-4 draw away to Jacksonville Armada on Sunday.

Cosmos have garnered 18 points from 15 rounds.

Elsewhere in the Spanish second division, McDonald Mariga provided an assist as Real Oviedo beat Cordoba 2-0 at Nuevo Carlos stadium.

Sergi Guardiola netted an own goal in the 59th minute before Mariga, who clocked 90 minutes in the game, teed up Diego Johannesson to double the lead in the dying moments.

Oviedo are 12th on the 22-team log with 14 points after eleven matches.

ABOUD OMAR

In the Belgian second division, Johanna Omollo featured for 90 minutes as Cercle Brugge went down 3-2 to Lierse.

Brugge are third on the eight team log with 19 points from 12 rounds.

In Finland, Mariehamn midfielder Amos Ekhalie featured the entire match in a 3-0 win over RoPS on Friday. Another Kenyan Anthony Dafaa was an unused substitute.

Elsewhere in Bulgaria, Abud Omar played in Slavia Sofia’s goalless draw against Pirin.

Sofia are ninth on the 14-team table with 16 points after 13 games.

JESSE, MAKWATTA SCORE

In Africa, Kenyan strikers Jesse Were and John Makwatta scored for their respective teams on Saturday.

Jesse, John Chingandu and Lazaroud Kambole scored one apiece in Zesco United’s 3-0 win over Lusaka Dynamos.

Elsewhere, Makwatta’s opener was cancelled by Junior Zulu as Buildcon was held to a 1-1 draw by Nakambala Leopards.

Zesco sit third on the 20-team Zambian Super League table on 55 points, seven ahead of eigth placed Buildcon, also home to Kenyan Cliff Miheso.

Michael Olunga (Spain), Arnold Origi (Norway), Amos Nondi, John Macharia and Alwyn Tera (Georgia) have league matches on Monday.
