Judge to acting IG Masengeli: Appear in court today or else...

Court orders Acting IG Gilbert Masengeli to be in court at 3pm

Acting Inspector-General of Police Gilbert Masengeli has, for the 5th time, failed to show up in court to explain the recent abduction of three men in Kitengela.

Justice Lawrence Mugambi has ordered Mr Masengeli to attend court by 3pm today (Thursday), failure to which stern action will be taken against him.

State counsel had requested that Mr Masengeli be excused for today as he was attending a workshop in Mombasa. However, the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) demanded that he be punished for contempt as he has chosen to disobey court orders.

He was expected to explain the whereabouts of three missing men: Jamil Longton Hashim, his brother Aslam Longton and activist Bob Michemi Njagi. They were abducted by men believed to be police on August 19, 2024 during the Gen Z protests.
