Samsung Electronics Limited on Monday announced the launch of its 2018 QLED TVs in Kenya ushering a new era of intelligent display. The QLED 2018 line-up was first launched in New York, in March this year.

The company took the wraps off its 2018 line-up of higher-end QLED TVs, providing more details on new features and specific models.

The biggest news for video quality fans is the confirmation that the highest-end models will get full-array local dimming (FALD) backlights, which could help them better compete against OLED, the incumbent picture quality champ.

The electronics company’s new line-up features great innovations that enrich the lives of consumers by reimagining how TV integrates into the living room, how consumers enjoy their content, and how they interact with their devices.

MOST INNOVATIVE YET

According to Samuel Odhiambo, Head of Consumer Electronics, Samsung Electronics East Africa, the latest QLED TV is most definitely their most innovative yet.

“The 2018 line up is not only sophisticated for the modern day consumer, but also minds the aesthetics of their space. Its features include improved picture quality, design, connectivity and intelligence, creating a truly limitless TV,” said Odhiambo.

Q Picture– the TV’s true 4K colours have 100 percent Colour Volume, to enable you see everything in incredible detail in any room conditions. Its true Direct Full Array delivers exceptionally deep contrast for an outstanding picture quality.

Q Smart - with the internet of things coming into play, this feature simply controls everything with One Remote Control and automatically connects your own devices to browse all content through one interface.

Q Style - comes with the one invisible connection and a No Gap Wall Mount to keep your home tidier and seamlessly harmonised. Ambient mode, which is only available in the 2018 models, brings you a new TV experience and new life style. The feature allows the TV to elegantly display images as well as real-time information such as the weather or news. Its main intent is to match the TV with the interior décor and works best with mounted TVs, when users are not watching a show or movie.

Samsung QLED TVs are certified as the burn-in free TVs by Video, an acclaimed German tech magazine. Conducted in conjunction with the connect Test lab, a global testing lab, all 2018 Samsung QLED TV series were proved free of burn-in and afterglow reaffirming QLED TVs’ position as one of the most durable displays on the market today.

To set up the feature, you will need to take a picture of the mounted TV via the corresponding Samsung SmartThings app. From there, the app uses a colour and brightness matching process to display the same colour or pattern as the TV's surroundings.

Users can also upload their own photos instead or use preset décor images, such as a photo of mountains.

SIMPLE SOLUTION

The ambient mode is also accessible via the Smart Things app, or a simplified remote and a new voice control assistant, Bixby, which makes its TV debut in the line-up.

Bixby allows you to conveniently control all of the main functions of your TV with just your voice. You can use it to get useful information, answer factual questions and even control your home appliances.

To create even more stunning picture quality, the TVs feature new Direct Full Array backlighting technology that ensure that the screen is illuminated accurately. This reduces blooming and halo effects and enables deeper contrast, with inky blacks and brilliant whites.

The invisible connection is a simple solution to eliminate cable clutter, which integrates power cables and data lines that were previously separated to allow the TVs to harmonise with their surrounding aesthetic.

The new QLED 2018 line-up is now available at Samsung Brand Shops and authorised dealers countrywide with the entry models priced at between Sh215,000 and Sh399,000.
