Virtual Reality (VR) seems to be going places, and Oculus is kicking it up a couple of notches with its stand-alone VR headset, the Oculus Go. Here is the thing, when it comes to VR, the headset has almost certainly relied on service from a device, from smartphones to computers and even in some cases from television sets.

That means that the console has been tied to a device with a cable, but with the Oculus Go, everything ends there. The device is designed to run on its own, without needing a single cable, including to its controller, meaning that you will no longer be tied to one position to do anything.

360 degree functionality. Going wireless has also added in a lot more freedom, including three degrees of head tracking freedom (3DOF) which makes it more versatile when it comes to gaming and using interactive services. The display will be a 2560 x 1440 resolution unit, giving it one of the widest fields of view. For audio, the Go has not been left behind, employing integrated spatial audio that drops one of the best enhanced audio experiences ever, meaning that in the end, there will be no need for external headphones.

The Go promises a very interesting experience, and given its hands-free nature, will come supporting both Unity and Unreal gaming platforms for VR gaming and will also run native apps built using the Oculus Mobile development kit.

It ships sometime next year and is expected to cost around Sh21,000, the right price for what could be the best VR headset of 2018.
