We all know that too much sugar is bad for our health, but despite our best intentions we find ourselves overindulging in sweet treats.

While enjoying a sweet treat once in a while is totally fine, having no control over our intake can be dangerous.

This is because sugar cravings are one of the main reasons people have a hard time shedding weight and eating healthy.

In order to prevent sweet cravings in the first place – or to successfully manage them – it’s important to understand when the craving strike. Is it when you are hungry or when you are stressed or when you are most relaxed?

This will help you know the exact trigger for you to deal with them.

WEAN YOURSELF

Start small. Make small goals to cut out the sugar and do it gradually. Do not try to be drastic about your approach,  yourself time to wean yourself off sugar.

Other times your craving for sweet things could be that you are staying for long intervals without eating anything.

When your blood sugar levels are very low due to lack of food. This happens mostly if you have gone more than four to six hours without consuming anything.

The body is then deprived of energy and thus the craving for mainly sweet or fatty things. It is very difficult to keep a regular eating pattern especially when you are skipping meals.

When this happens you are most out of control over anything sweet whether it is a food or a drink.

To curb this, eat small regular meals through out the day. Take a snack in between your meals. But let the snack be a fruit.

If you find that you are craving sweet stuff all the time , make sure to stock up on healthy but sweet foods or drinks. Fruits like grapes, bananas, sweet tangerines  taste naturally sweet, making them effective in fighting sugar cravings.

Do keep sugary drinks like soda in your house and avoid filling your  pantry with sweet stuff only like cookies, cakes and biscuits.
