Residents of Skuta in Nyeri peep through a window of a room where a Kimathi University student was allegedly murdered on May 21, 2012. Police are looking for her boyfriend.

A Kimathi University College student has been found dead in the house of her boyfriend’s mother in Nyeri town.

Ms Valentine Wanjiru’s body was in a pool of blood at the time it was discovered on Monday night. The boyfriend is being sought by the police.

Nyeri police boss Kirunya Limbitu said the boyfriend’s mother told the police that she found the door of her house open when she returned from work and on entering, found the body.

“Neighbours said Ms Wanjiru and the boyfriend arrived at about 10am in a taxi from Nyeri town where he works at his mother’s chemist shop,” he said.

“The neighbours said that at midday they heard screams, which abruptly stopped.

“It also appears the girl was raped as her body was naked,” said Mr Limbitu, adding that a blood-soaked bedsheet was stuffed in the girl’s mouth.

And in Meru, a 34-year-old woman was allegedly killed by a jealous lover on Monday. Ms Charity Karimi died from stab wounds on her neck.

Meru police boss James Kithuka said the man had reportedly got wind that his girlfriend was having an affair and decided to confront her, resulting in the alleged stabbing.

Beaten by villagers

“The man was arrested in Kienderu in Imenti North and will be charged with murder,” Mr Kithuka said.

In another incident, a man is being treated at the Meru Level Five Hospital after he was beaten by villagers following the discovery of allegedly stolen goods in his house at Gakoromone in Imenti North.

The mob accused him of breaking into Mr Peter Ndumba’s house and stealing a gas cooker, radio and two DVD players.
