betPawa six-a-side tournaments generate millions for local teams

betPawa rewarded teams competing in their recent six-a-side tournaments with Ksh1 million in prizes and Ksh1.3 million in kits and equipment.
After running a similar initiative in 2022, the sports betting company came back even bigger in April 2023. A total of 186 teams from across Kenya participated in Nairobi, Kisumu and Nakuru.
Each region’s champions won Ksh200,000. The runners-up took home Ksh100,000, and the third-placed teams received Ksh50,000. A further 105 teams were given full kits, sports attire, and training gear.
In Nairobi, the champions were Akiba FC, followed by Kuta FC, and Pirates FC. In Kisumu, Amani FC won the top prize, with Kosovo FC, and Mowlem Stars the other big winners. In Nakuru, the top-three were Fagarians People FC, Everstars, and Nakuru Griffons.
betPawa Kenya Marketing Coordinator Simon Mwangi said: “We’re pleased to have again promoted sport in Kenya through grassroots football. These tournaments nurture talent, help young people learn to work together, give them exposure to scouts from high-level leagues, and of course the chance to win exciting prizes.”

This isn’t the first time betPawa has provided opportunities for community teams. In addition to 2022’s six-a-side tournaments, sport was at the centre of the company’s 2021 Dream Maker campaign, where people were invited from across the country to submit their dreams to be brought to life.
Four teams were supported with equipment and investment on that occasion, while one of the dreams saw a community’s sports grounds reconstructed.
