It is appalling leadership

What you need to know:

  • They are appalled at their leaders’ tendency to engage in crime and their increasingly unbecoming individual conduct.

Coming increasingly under public scrutiny is the wanting state of the political leadership.

Many of the voters must be rethinking their decision to elect the current crop of MCAs, MPs, and senators, who have largely failed to live up to what is expected of them as the people’s representatives in the various lawmaking bodies.

This lot has shamelessly thrown decorum out of the window in pursuit of self-interest by looting public coffers and getting mired in corruption.

Nearly two years into their tenure, these politicians have failed the leadership test. In the minds of many people, the image of the lawmakers has sunk to the lowest level ever.

They are appalled at their leaders’ tendency to engage in crime and their increasingly unbecoming individual conduct.

The image, especially of the MPs, has hit rock bottom, with all manner of brushes with the law, the most demeaning being rape allegations against people expected to be of exemplary behaviour and held in high esteem as “honourable” leaders.

To regain confidence, the politicians must climb down from their pedestal and work hard to clean up their image and restore the dignity of the institutions in which they serve.
