National women's team coach Jackline Mwangi says the Daikyo Japan Motors Jamhuri hockey tournament set for this weekend in Mombasa County will help her spot more talent ahead of Africa Nations Cup.

Daykio Japan Motors Tournament previously known as SANA Cup Tournament is held annually in remembrance of hockey legend and a former Boabab Hockey Club Sponsor, the late Agnelo De Souza.

The national team will Saturday begin their title campaign against Mombasa Sports Club (MSC) before they take on The Swans in their second match of the day.

The national team will then play Amira Sailors before they take on Blazers on Sunday.

The top four teams in the women's event that will be played in round robin format will qualify for the semi-final scheduled for Sunday.

"The national team has been training for over one year at the City Park stadium in Nairobi and there are things we have been working on and I want to see if the players will put them in perspective. I'm really excited about the chance and I want the players to make use of the opportunity. I might just see good players that will be a good addition to the national team," said Mwangi.

Mwangi also revealed that she will be going into coaching fully during next year's Kenya Hockey Union Premier League.

"I want to give a chance to upcoming players. I will be offering my expertise on the sidelines of Blazers team. It's sad that we failed to participate in the recently concluded African Clubs Championships in Ghana due to financial constraints. We are hoping and appealing to well-wishers and corporates to come on board and sponsor the outfit," added Mwangi.

Other women's matches on the card will see Amira Sailors battle Blazers before they take on MSC. The Swans will then play Blazers.

In the men's competition, Pool 'B' Greenshark versus Western Jaquars will be the highlight of the day as MSC host Parkroad, Mvita XI will play Task Force.

In Pool 'A', champions Kenya Police will play Mombasa West, Daikyo Heroes battle Taskforce as the national team play Underdogs.

Underdogs will then take on MSC before Daikyo Heroes square it off with Blank Tankers. The top four teams in the two pools will proceed to the semi-final.
