Ulinzi Stars FC put up a sterling show to secure a fine 3-1 victory over Bandari FC in their FKF Premier League match at Mbaraki Sports Club in Mombasa on Tuesday

The soldiers led 2-0 at halftime through goals by John Kago and Boniface Onyango with Omar Boraafya netting the third against his former team in the second half. Bandari got their consolation through a penalty via William Wadri.

Bandari coach Andre Cassa Mbungo said individual mistakes cost them the tie.

“Our strikers missed a number of scoring chances and the backline mistakes enabled our opponents to score their goals,” said Mbungo.

His Ulinzi Stars counterpart, Benjamin Nyangweso said the victory against Bandari was sweet revenge having lost the first leg fixture.

“We are now preparing for our next fixture against Sofapaka in Wundanyi which we’ll need to also secure the three points,” said Nyangweso.

The game started at a cracking pace with the soldiers having an upper hand and forcing Bandari's  Burundian goalkeeper Justin Ndikumana into diving save from a shot from Masuta Masita in the fifth minute.

Five minutes later, he failed to save a ground shot by Kago after a fine combination between Elvis Kandora and John Njuguna.

Ulinzi continued to pile up the pressure and went further ahead in the 36th minute when Masita was brought down inside the box by Brian Otieno and Onyango made no mistake in beating Ndikumana from the spot.

In the last quarter of the half, Bandari commanded the game but Ulinzi keeper James Saruni was unbeatable between the posts saving a number of shots from Bandari strikers.

In the second half, Bandari improved and reduced the margin in the 47th minute when Wadri managed to beat Saruni with a hard ground drive.

But five minutes later, the visitors got their third goal frrom a goalmouth melee, which Boraafya capitalised on to restore their two-goal cushion.
