The Kenyan Premier League (KPL) has said Gor Mahia would be punished for snubbing the DStv Super Cup trophy presentation ceremony at the Mbaraki Sports Club on Saturday.

Gor players refused to line up for their silver medals as well as a Sh500,000 cheque following their 0-1 defeat by hosts Bandari.

KPL chief executive officer Jack Oguda did not specify the punishment.

“Gor is a big club that is supposed to set a good example for other players. What happened on Saturday was uncalled for and unsportsmanlike.

RECEIVED WINNERS' MEDALS

“Last year, they gladly received the winners’ medals and trophies three times, and on all the occasions, the losers picked their second place awards. They should have done the same. KPL does not encourage such behaviour,” he said.

K’Ogalo relinquished the DStv trophy, which they have won three times so far.

The champions played for 53 minutes with 10 men after defender Harun Shakava was sent off.

He was red-carded for raising a high boot in an attempt to dispossess his former team mate Dan Sserunkuma of the ball. Gor coach Frank Nuttall faulted the referee’s judgement.

Anthony Kimani scored the solitary goal for the dockers.
