What you need to know:

  • They join reigning champions General Service Unit, Kenya Prisons, Kenya Ports Authority, Kenya Defence Forces and Equity Bank in the league.
  • Others are Forest Service, Nairobi Prisons, Mombasa Prisons, Western Prisons, Administration Police, Vihiga County, Rift valley Prisons and Kenya Army.

After being out in the cold for three years, coach Geoffrey Omondi has found a new home at Trail Blazers men's volleyball team.

Blazers is a new outfit that will compete in Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) National League that serves off Friday at the Kapsabet show ground in Nandi County.

Omondi last coached Cooperative Bank men's team where he guided them to the 2017 KVF playoffs before it was disbanded in early 2018.

Omondi was also the men's national team head coach at the 2015 Africa Games qualifiers in Rwanda where the team failed to book the sole slot to continental showpiece.

Although it's a new club, most of the players have been poached from Equity Bank and Kenya Forest Service.

Middle blocker Derrick Apat, left attacker David Neeke, right attacker Moses Omondi, who was feted the best attacker during the 2017 playoffs, libero James Mutero, setter Jean Claude have all crossed over from Equity, while left attacker Stanley Mutua joins the new side from Kenya Forest Service.

Others are setters Reagan Oselu and Juliard Mbappe who were unattached.

Speaking during their training session at the Nyayo National Stadium indoor arena in Nairobi Tuesday afternoon, Apat stated they have their eyes fixed on a playoffs slot.

But the middle blocker said for the objective to come into play, they will have to start the league on a high.

"We know each other pretty well and what we have been doing is to get our combination intact. We have a rich technical bench and we can't wait to get started," said Apat.

The self supporting club have former national team player and University of Philippines coach Godfrey Owese, Richard Sylvain and Bernard Oselu in their technical bench.

Blazers will tackle Rift Valley Prisons and Kenya Forest Service as they start life in the league.

"We hope to get the six points and see what happens from there," said Apat.

Blazers, Nyanza Prisons and Central Prisons will make their debut in league this season.

They join reigning champions General Service Unit, Kenya Prisons, Kenya Ports Authority, Kenya Defence Forces and Equity Bank in the league.

Others are Forest Service, Nairobi Prisons, Mombasa Prisons, Western Prisons, Administration Police, Vihiga County, Rift valley Prisons and Kenya Army.
