Nyairera pulls out of Stockholm with injury

Olympics 800m bronze medallist Margaret Nyairera has pulled out of Stockholm Diamond League due on Sunday with an injury.
Nyairera injured her foot during the Oslo Diamond League on Thursday after running with one shoe following an incident.
According to Nyairera, someone stepped on her foot causing her shoe to come off with 600 metres remaining. She finished third in 1:59:17.
Nyairera said that she was feeling a lot of pain in her leg which has forced her to pull out of the Stockholm meet.
“I cannot proceed for the next race as I want my foot to heal. I have opted to go back home so that I can rest and be ready for the national trials next week,” said Nyairera. Caster Semenya of South Africa won the race in 1:57.59 ahead of Burundian Francine Niyonsaba who ran 1:58.18.
In 3,000m steeplechase women, Kenya’s Norah Jeruto won clocking 9:17.27 narrowly ahead of Ethiopia Assefa Sofia who finished in 9:17.34 while Fabienne Schlumpf from Switzerland was third in 9:21.65.
Jeruto, who trains in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet County said that she was not aware of Asefa was behind her as she was running her race.
The athlete said that she would be participating in the Kenya trials and was looking forward to representing Kenya in the IAAF World Championships.
