All set for Ng'elel Tarit kids race

What you need to know:

  • The race director Richard Metto, who is also a coach at the Global Sports Communication said that many athletes started their careers while in primary school thus the need to support them at young age
  • Metto said that world marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge and two-time 1,500m Olympics champion Faith Chepng’etich will grace the race which has different categories
  • The race categories include 4-6 years (boys and girls), 7-9 years (boys and girls), 10-12 (boys and girls), 13-15 (boys and girls), 16-19 years under-20 (men and women) 25-35 years (women) and 36-45 years (women)

The third edition of Ng’elel Tarit kids race goes down on Sunday with many children expected to showcase their talent at Kipsinende Primary School in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.

The race director Richard Metto, who is also a coach at the Global Sports Communication said that many athletes started their careers while in primary school thus the need to support them at young age.

Metto said that world marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge and two-time 1,500m Olympics champion Faith Chepng’etich will grace the race which has different categories.

“We have a lot of talent in schools and we are happy that we can once again hold the kids race which was postponed last year due to the coronavirus pandemic which halted sports across the globe.

“These are future world beaters and having the world marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge and Olympics champion in 1,500m race Faith Chepng’etich as guests is motivation to the young athletes,” said Metto.

The race categories include 4-6 years (boys and girls), 7-9 years (boys and girls), 10-12 (boys and girls), 13-15 (boys and girls), 16-19 years under-20 (men and women) 25-35 years (women) and 36-45 years (women).

There will also be 45 years and above for women category and 55 years and above for men’s category. 

Metto said he hopes to grow the race to international standards in the near future.
