A first-year student at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) was on Monday charged with killing his girlfriend in Juja, Kiambu County.

Mr Marcel Jumaane Dalance, 19, denied that on the night of July 10-11 at a rented house, he murdered Faith Vicky Owuor, who was said to be his girlfriend.

He was ordered to remain in custody pending investigations after the prosecution opposed his release on bond.

The prosecution said the evidence against him was yet to be pieced together for a hearing, although enough ground had been laid for the suspect to answer to a charge of murder.

“The same may be inspected by yourself or your advocate when they are ready, but in the meantime may the accused be remanded at the industrial area until the investigations are complete,” Ms Catherie Mwaniki said.

The suspect appeared before Lady Justice Florence Mucheni, who ordered the case be heard on March 23, 2015.

A lawyer appearing for Mr Dalance said he would make an application for his release on bond in two weeks.
