The Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission (TJRC) will release its report on May 3 to the public on the injustices committed to Kenyans.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Chavangi Aziz Tom said in Mombasa that the dominant issues in the Coast region were land and marginalisation.

The Commission prepared its reports after receiving 53,000 statements and 1,600 memorandums from the public.

Mr Tom said 40 per cent of Kenya’s injustices were on land adding that the issue had borne the Mombasa Republican Council whose grievances TJRC was still looking into.

“Three times we attempted to engage the MRC but they declined to agree with us. First, they demanded legal recognition then the release of their leaders and finally the issue of land," he said.

He said the report would be a detailed account of the injustices committed to Kenyans and would set the benchmark for other commissions of inquiry to use in future.

Saying that land had been the subject of violence in the country, Mr Tom called on Kenyans to remain calm and peaceful especially as the General Election approaches.

“Kenyans should not fight over land any more. Solutions are coming. We shall give our recommendations on the permanent solutions after releasing our report. Please remain peaceful," he said.

He made the remarks at the Coast PC’s Boardroom at Uhuru na Kazi during a TJRC District/County Peace Committee (DPCs) Peace and Reconciliation Consultative Forum.

TJRC Commissioner Major (Rtd) Ahmed Sheikh Farah also addressed the stakeholders.
