Positivity rate goes up as Kenya hits highest jabs records

Kenya has recorded an all-time high positivity rate of 32.5 per cent after reporting 3,746 new infections from a sample size of 11,537 tested in the last 24 hours.

The latest infections have pushed the total confirmed cases in the country to 274,645 with 2,966,713 tests having been done so far.

At the same time, the country also recorded the highest number of vaccines administered on a single day at 205,948, comprising 81,292 first doses and 124,656 second jabs, the Ministry of Health said on Thursday.

Nairobi country continues to lead with the number of new infections per county with 1,600 cases followed by Kiambu 344, Nakuru 236, Mombasa 160, Kakamega 127, Kajiado 113, Kericho 97, Nyeri 97, Siaya 96, Kisumu 91, Uasin Gishu 84, Murang’a 58, Nyandarua 53, Tharaka Nithi 53, Vihiga 47, Kilifi 41, Laikipia 41, Bungoma 40, Machakos 37, Bomet 32, Homa bay 31, West Pokot 29, Taita Taveta 29, Embu 25, Makueni 24, Busia 24, Meru 23, Migori 20, Kisii 20, Garissa 17, Kwale 16, Baringo 14, Kitui 13, Narok 9, Elgeyo Marakwet 2, Wajir 1, Nandi 1 and Lamu 1.

The Ministry also said that 60 patients have recovered from Covid-19, 59 from various health facilities and one is from the Home-Based Isolation & Care program. Total recoveries now stand at 249,617.

During the same duration, one death was reported after conducting facility record audits in the month of December 2021. This pushes the cumulative fatalities to 5,356.

Health Cabinet Secretary, Mutahi Kagwe also announced that 554 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 11,329 are under the home-based isolation and care programme.

Seventeen patients are in the ICU, 10 of whom are on ventilatory support while seven are on supplemental oxygen. Another 101 patients are on supplemental oxygen, with 97 in the general wards and four in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
