Jubilee retains Mahoo ward, as Donald Fundi emerges victorious

Saleri Donald Fundi of Jubilee Party is the Member of County Assembly-elect for Mahoo Ward following his victory in a hotly contested by-election.

Mr Fundi was elected with 1,609, representing 53 per cent of total votes, closely followed United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Daniel Kimuyu Mutuku who garnered 1,358 votes (44 percent).

Tujibebe Wakenya Party candidate, Samuel Obwoge, came a distance third with 89 votes.

"I will be Mahoo ward representative for a very short time considering we will be going the General Election in August next year. Within that period, my focus will be to unite the electorate," the MCA-elect said in his victory speech.

The winner of the mini-poll will now succeed former area MCA Ronald Sagurai, who passed on four months ago.

After Mr Fundi was declared winner by Taveta returning officer Abdul Jamada, Taita-Taveta Governor Granton Samboja and Taveta MP Naomi Shahaban led several jubilant supporters in celebrating the win on the streets Taveta.

"We had a strategy which has worked well against the well-funded UDA's team. The win signals a bright future under Azimio la Umoja where Jubilee is working together with ODM. We are now ready and confident of victory in next year's General Election," Mr Samboja said.

Ms Naomi, who was the Jubilee Party point person in the region, thanked her campaign team for a well-coordinated campaign.
