The National Gender and Equality Commission has protested against recent appointments to State corporations and parastatals.

The commission says disabled people were discriminated against and left out.

According to the commission, an analysis of the appointments shows that only two out of more than 300 appointees were people with disabilities, representing 0.6 per cent.

Commission vice-chairman Simon Ndubai says it was not a matter of qualifications, arguing that many disabled people have the necessary professional requirements.

"The commission is disturbed that we may not be able to meet the progressive realisation threshold as enshrined in the Constitution,” he said at the commission offices on Tuesday.
