Police detain suspected drug trafficker at JKIA

Police at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) detained a Nigerian man on Saturday evening suspected to have swallowed pellets of narcotics.

The 31 year-old suspect was travelling from Pakistan en route to Conakry, Guinea.

Cases of drug mules having swallowed drug pellets have increased at JKIA in the recent past.

A detective who knows about anti-narcotics operations has in the past said measures put in place to detect drugs being ferried in luggage had caused traffickers to “conceal the drugs inside their bodies.”

A case where drug pellets burst in a person’s stomach can result in death if the person is not treated by a doctor promptly.
