The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has dismissed claims of a plan to cover up some anti-corruption cases involving certain county governments listed by the President in April.

In a response to an inquiry by a lobby group from north-eastern Kenya, the commission insisted it was conducting investigations into all cases filed at the commission.

The commission has been focusing on cases involving Cabinet secretaries in which some files have already been forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions for further action.

The commission’s Deputy Secretary-General Michael Mubea, in a letter to the Wajir Anti-Corruption and Justice Forum, denied any clandestine operations by the EACC officials handling the anti-corruption cases.

“Please be assured that the commission will undertake investigations in a transparent and fair manner without any cover-ups. That the Wajir governor was not mentioned by name does not, in any way, affect allegations against him nor does this have any impact on investigations,” wrote Mr Mubea in a letter dated April 14.

Meanwhile, Kasipul MP Oyugi Magwanga has demanded action on Homa Bay county officials mentioned in the “List of Shame”.

Other counties whose officials are under probe over various corruption allegations include Narok, Trans Nzoia, Makueni, Machakos, Siaya, Kisumu, Turkana, Mombasa, Kilifi, Taita Taveta, Isiolo, Nandi, Migori, Embu, Bomet, Garissa, Tana River, Mandera, Marsabit, Meru, Nyamira, Busia and Kakamega.
