Mob stones to death gambler who killed two Casino workers

Another gambler, Leila Aden, said: “John placed a bet of Sh30,000 and when he lost, he started shouting and said he wanted to see the manager.”
The gambler stabbed the manager after she turned him down for a free play.
A security officer who went to rescue the Casino manager was also stabbed to death.
A man was stoned to death in Eastleigh, Nairobi on Monday night when he allegedly killed two Casino employees after he gambled and lost Sh30, 000.
A mob killed John Barnabas Mchanga, a Tanzanian, after he stabbed the victims to death at City View Bar.
Police said Mchanga went to the manager’s office and found 40-year-old Winfred Mbuvi. He demanded a free play but she turned him down. That is when he attacked her with a Somali sword. He stabbed her several times and killed her.
“When a guard, James Lutea, heard Ms Mbuvi screaming, he went to find out what was happening. He was also stabbed in the stomach and chest as he tried to gain entry into office,” said Mr Kevin Okoth, a gambler who was at the Casino.
Mr Okoth said another guard, Kevin Ogada, heard the commotion and rushed to rescue his boss and his colleague but the gambler attacked him too, and stabbed in the neck.
Another gambler, Leila Aden, said: “John placed a bet of Sh30,000 and when he lost, he started shouting and said he wanted to see the manager.”
“He then went to the manager’s office and demanded that he be allowed to place a free bet. He wanted to give the manager his phone but she told him it was less valuable. That is when he drew a knife and stabbed her severally in the chest. When she screamed, the guard came and on opening the door, and John stabbed him too,” she added.
STONED TO DEATH
She said Mchanga went out of the Casino through the front bar and tried to hide by the cars.
“He still had the knife. There were many people in the bar and some called an ambulance to take those he had stabbed to hospital. However, when the ambulance arrived, doctors pronounced Ms Mbuvi and Mr Lutea dead,” Ms Aden said.
Meanwhile, a crowd that was chasing the attacker caught up with him near the intersection between the Main 10th Street and the 2 Avenue and stoned him to death.
“By the time police arrived, the gambler was already dead,” said Nairobi police boss Japhet Koome.
Eastleigh North Nyumba Kumi initiative chairman Hussein Roba said Mchanga had earlier in the day sold one of his two motorcycles hopping to gamble to get more money.
“He has been living here for over five years. Initially, he was a shoe shiner along the 10th Street before he bought a motorcycle and started boda boda business,” Mr Roba said.
Inside the Casino’s office, the chair Ms Mbuvi sat on was still soiled with blood. There was also blood at the door, where the guards were attacked.
The injured guard, Mr Ogada is recuperating in hospital. He sustained injuries in his shoulders during midnight attack.
Starehe OCPD Alice Kimeli said they are investigating the incident and that several people are being interrogated.
