Lands Cabinet Secretary Charity Ngilu has asked politicians to stop playing politics with land problems in Kenya.

“The people should realise that leaders who are opposed to issuance of title deeds have their title deeds intact. Let senators keep out of the land issues and concentrate on other politics.

“For the period I have been in this ministry I realised that the rich could access Ardhi House and have their problems solved because they can pay. This is why I said we must clean up the Ministry of Lands.

"We have established the national titling centre where surveying, adjudication and registration is done under one roof to make real our promise to give three million title deeds,” she said.

The CS was speaking at the Meru Lands Registry and was accompanied by Meru Senator Kiraitu Murungi and Meru Women Rep Florence Kajuju.

Ms Ngilu said the government has launched an initiative to fast track issuance of title deeds throughout the country.

She said 200,000 title deeds will be given to residents of Meru and Tharaka Nithi counties within 10 days.

She also said that plans are underway to digitize the Meru Land Registry.

The CS said President Uhuru Kenyatta will be in Meru in a week’s time to issue the title deeds to residents.

Mr Murungi lauded the government’s initiative to fast track issuance of title deeds in the County saying it will end land disputes.
