Kolosh, Mawathe and David Ochieng assigned committees

What you need to know:

  • Newly-elected Ugenya MP David Ochieng has been placed in the Health committee, where his predecessor Christopher Karan, whom he trounced in the by-election, was.
  • Embakasi South's Julius Mawathe, who successfully retained his seat after beating ODM’s Irshad Sumra, has been retained in the Energy and National Cohesion committees.
  • Jubilee's Ahmed Kolosh, who retained his Wajir West seat, has been placed in the National Administration and Security committee.

Members of Parliament who won the by-elections in Ugenya, Embakasi South and Wajir West have been placed in departmental committees.

Ugenya MP David Ochieng has been assigned the Health committee, where his predecessor Christopher Karan, whom he trounced in the by-election, was.

Embakasi South's Julius Mawathe, who successfully retained his seat after beating ODM’s Irshad Sumra, has been retained in the Energy and National Cohesion committees.

Mr Mawathe served in the two committees before his election was nullified by a court following a successful petition by Mr Sumra.

KOLOSH

Jubilee's Ahmed Kolosh, who retained his Wajir West seat, has been placed in the National Administration and Security committee.

Mr Kolosh decamped from the orange Democratic Movement ahead of the by-election.

He has been dropped as a member of the National Assembly Public Investments Committee because majority of the watchdog team must be from the opposition.

PIC REPLACEMENT

National Assembly Minority Leader John Mbadi said the placement of the members in committees was done in concurrence with their counterparts in Jubilee.

He, however, pointed out that the party will get a replacement for Mr Kolosh in the PIC, which is chaired by Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir.

Mr Mbadi said the new Ugenya MP expressed interest to serve in the Justice and Legal Affairs committee but could not find space and was told to serve in the Health committee for now.

The three MPs took their oaths of office in April in a ceremony overseen by National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi.
