Kenya declares 3 days mourning on fallen Ministers

Kenya has declared three days of national mourning beginning Monday after the deaths of Internal Minister Prof George Saitoti and his deputy Orwa Ojode.

Others that perished during the Sunday morning chopper crash were two pilots and two bodyguards.

"During this period of national mourning the national flag will fly at half-mast," said President Kibaki in a statement.

Meanwhile, Eurocopter, the firm that manufactured the ill-fated Helicopter has mobilised a team of experts that will assist the
Kenyan authorities investigate the cause of the crash.

“On behalf of all of us at Eurocopter, we extend our sympathy and sincere condolences to the loved ones, and colleagues of the passengers and crew and to all Kenyans on their tragic loss,” said Eurocopter Southern Africa CEO, Fabrice Cagnat.

The chopper which was built in 2011 was delivered to Kenya Police last December.

The helicopter had logged about 230 flight hours and was last serviced at the end of May 2012 according to Mr Cagnat.
