Kenya Airways suspends flights to and from Juba

Kenya Airways will from December 24 to December 31 suspend all flights to and from Juba, the capital of South Sudan.

In a statement released on Monday, the airline revealed that six flights would be affected by the suspension.

South Sudan, the world's newest country, split from Sudan in 2011 after a two-decade civil war that left two million people dead.

Violence erupted after a meeting last week of leaders of the ruling Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) failed to ease tensions in the party. (READ: Barack Obama warns South Sudan after US servicemen wounded)

President Salva Kiir has accused former vice president Riek Machar, whom he fired in July along with his entire cabinet, of staging an attempted coup. The former vice president has denied the charge.
