The storm over disappearance of more than Sh790 million at the National Youth Service continued to rage. As former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru swore an affidavit associating key aides of Deputy President William Ruto with some of the deals, the National Alliance Party came out to ask those implicated in the scam to carry their own cross amid fears that the claims could split the Jubilee coalition.

Kenya’s wallet is about to get a Sh520 million boost following an order by the Royal Court of Jersey that accounts belonging to Windward Trading Limited be seized. The company had pleaded guilty to money laundering. The court’s directive meant that the sum that had been deposited on the Jersey Island by former Kenya Power boss Samuel Gichuru and former Nambale MP Chris Okemo will now be returned to Kenya.

The controversy around claims that Supreme Court judge Philip Tunoi received a bribe from Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero during an election petition kept evolving. Besides President Uhuru Kenyatta appointing a seven-member tribunal to probe the judge, Dr Kidero’s opponent in the case, Mr Ferdinand Waititu, received some good news on Friday after Mr Justice Jackton Ojwang reversed his earlier decision that Mr Waititu’s bid to review the judgment of the petition had no merit. He instead referred it to Chief Justice Willy Mutunga.

It was a bad week for a pilot of Deputy President William Ruto as he had a day in court following an allegation that he assaulted a female police officer and that he was captured in the act by a video camera. Captain Alistair Patrick Llewelyn denied the accusation and he is in remand awaiting a ruling on his bond application on Monday.

Still on matters video, a clip of teachers beating up students at Keveye Girls High School caused a furore that saw Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i visit the institution where he ordered that the teachers be swiftly punished for their conduct.

What should have been a harmless role play by kids who were out playing in Kakamega County turned tragic as the playmates of two-year-old girl buried her in a shallow hole which they had filled with water. They would later retrieve the body which they threw at a banana field.
