High Court suspends rape case against Imenti Central MP Gideon Mwiti

The High Court has suspended the prosecution of Imenti Central MP Gideon Mwiti, who is facing rape charges.

The case was suspended pending the outcome of a case filed by Mr Mwiti challenging his prosecution in the rape case.

Justice Weldon Korir on Monday said that the trial, which was to start on August 19 at a magistrate’s court, had been suspended until further orders are given by the High Court.

At the same time, the victim’s lawyers protested at the release of a confidential report on the case and which was published in a local paper.

The MP was released on a Sh100,000 cash bail after denying raping, intimidating and assaulting a married woman on March 21.
