A heavy downpour delayed examinations at Sankuri Secondary School in Garissa County after a vehicle ferrying morning examinations papers got stuck in mud.

Speaking to the Nation by phone Balambala Sub-County Education Director Idriss Buthul said the lorry carrying examinations materials for two schools left Balambala at 6am.

He said the vehicle dropped some papers at Saka Girls Secondary School at 7.35am before proceeding to Sankuri. But it got stuck at Dure, about 120km from the examinations centre.

Mr Buthul said efforts to get the vehicle out of the mud failed and the education officials were in touch with the Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) to ensure exams are delivered.

“The morning exam, which was Religious Education, has just ended at 10.35am; we are in contact with Knec to have examination materials delivered by plane,” the official said.
