Eight ACK bishops in race to succeed Wabukala

At least eight bishops have shown interest in succeeding Anglican Church of Kenya head Eliud Wabukala.
Sources revealed to the Nation that the race to succeed the ACK head was in earnest, with the candidates engaging in extensive lobbying in a bid to lead the church, ahead of the nomination in March and election in May.
Among those who have openly shown interest in the seat are the Rt Rev Timothy Ranji who heads the Diocese of Mt Kenya South.
Bishop Ranji is known for his interest in social-economic development.
His age will likely attract debate, given that the ACK constitution sets the age limit of those running for the position of archbishop at between 45 and 60. Rev Ranji will be 60 in March.
Another candidate is the Rt Rev James Ochiel, the bishop of Southern Nyanza Diocese.
The Rev Ochiel is known to be articulate and outspoken. He is also considered knowledge able in theology.
Also in the race is the Rt Rev Lawrence Dena, the bishop of Malindi Diocese and former ACK provincial secretary.
Another candidate to watch out for is the Rt Rev Moses Masaba, who heads the Mbeere Diocese, which was carved from Embu Diocese.
He spent several years in the United Kingdom on his doctoral studies.
Dr Christopher Ruto, bishop of the Diocese of Eldoret is another hopeful. He recently presided over the subdivision of the diocese to form another in Kapsabet.
Also said to be interested in the post is Thika Diocese head Julius Wanyoike.
The immediate former Nairobi Cathedral head also studied in the UK and is credited with growth in congregation.
Other prospective candidates are the Rt Rev Joseph ole Sapit of Kericho Diocese and Bishop Joel Waweru of All Saints Cathedral, Nairobi.
