What you need to know:

  • The book has something for everyone.

  • As the author describes it, it contains a secret that, if found by a reader, will lead to success not only in wealth creation but in all aspects of life.

There are so many books and authors who have dealt on the wealth creation topic. However, Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill is quite different, though it dwells on the same topic.

The tips and techniques contained therein are similar to the other motivational books, but they have been packaged so well that readers are able to relate and identify with them, no matter their age, gender, race or even their current financial status.

The book has something for everyone. As the author describes it, it contains a secret that, if found by a reader, will lead to success not only in wealth creation but in all aspects of life.

The first chapter deals with the distinguishing factor between human beings and animals — the ability to think. Titled ‘The Power of Thought,’ it essentially talks about how powerful our thoughts and ideas can be if worked on.

The author draws examples from well-known wealthy people such as Edwin Burns, who ‘thought’ his way into a partnership with Thomas A. Edison, by then one of the wealthiest men in the world.

The story is motivating to individuals who focus on what they lack rather than what they have. Burns presented himself to Thomas Edison and declared that he wanted to be a partner, something he had wanted so badly that he used a freight train to get there.

THOUGHTS INTO TANGIBLE SUCCESS

Thoughts are such powerful things that when mixed with purpose, persistence and a burning desire, translate to success and wealth creation.

From the first to the last chapters, the book deals with the secret of turning your thoughts into tangible success. In addition, each chapter is a step to riches. The second chapter talks about desire. Here, a six step method for transmuting desire for riches into financial equivalent is well described.

Also to note are the many examples given in each chapter. The most captivating of all is the author’s own son who was born deaf and mute.

Their desire to see their son hear normally motivated the parents to do everything in their power to ensure the child regained normal hearing and speaking.

Their desire and faith led them to defy the doctor’s opinion that their son would never speak and hear.

The father, particularly, tried speaking to his son closely by the ear, bought him a record player and played a particular song again and again after realising that his son could hear slightly and respond through body movement. This particular child grew up with parents who trained him not to bend to the call of Mother Nature but to fight in faith to get whatever they wanted.

Surprisingly, at the age of seven, the child would sell newspapers and make a profit. Even with lots of limitations compared to his ‘normal’ brother, he took matters into his own hands and focused on his business.

This is not only motivating but also challenging to parents who have physically challenged children and will keep them hidden inside their houses for fear of ridicule.

As the author puts it; there are no limitations to the mind except those we acknowledge.

The mid chapters are very informative. They touch on procrastination, planning, persistence and power of the master mind.

These chapters integrate thinking, belief and even religion together and their role in wealth creation. Personally, I gained a lot from these chapters.

In conclusion, the last chapters major on how to overcome challenges related to personal growth and wealth creation. Chapter 15 specifically deals with how to outwit the six ghosts of fear. This is detailed and is highly recommended for starters who are afraid of businesses, families, institutions and life in general.

The last chapter talks about ‘the devils workshop’ mostly based on excuses that people give for their failures in life and a self-analysis segment.
