All-female squad in Biden’s communication team historic

Biden vows 'not to divide but unify' as president

In a move reflecting his campaign pledge to create an administration that presents a diverse face to America, US President-elect Joe Biden named his economics and communications teams, enlisting mostly women and including several of colour.

Joe and Kamala’s selection for the senior communications team has particularly made headlines. The elected duo settled for an all-female team.

In a statement, the former Vice-President proudly announced the first senior White House communications team comprised entirely of women. Biden described the ladies as “experienced communicators who would bring diverse perspectives to their work and who share a commitment to build this country back better.”

Biden’s A-team of Senior Communication Teams is comprised of:

Kate Bedingfield: She served as deputy campaign manager and communications director for the campaign and will now be the White House communications director.

Pili Tobar: She served as the communications director for coalitions on the campaign and will now serve as the deputy White House communications director.

Karine Jean-Pierre: She served as a senior adviser on the Biden campaign and later transitioned to serve as chief of staff to Harris. She’ll now serve as the principal deputy press secretary.

Symone Sanders: A senior Biden adviser on the campaign will now serve as a senior adviser and chief spokesperson for the vice president.

Ashley Etienne: A senior adviser on the Biden campaign will now serve as communications director for the vice president.

Elizabeth Alexander: A Biden campaign senior adviser now will serve as communications director for first lady Jill Biden.

These appointments do not require Senate confirmation and the seven women will occupy some of the most visible roles in the administration. The Biden-Harris transition team termed the move historic saying: “For the first time in history, these communications roles will be filled entirely by women.”
