  • A total of 6.3 acres has been set aside for recreation and conservation purposes.

The Tharaka-Nithi County Assembly has passed a motion to allocate land for new national and county government offices.

The motion was proposed by Igambang'ombe Ward MCA Albanio Kiania, the minority leader, and seconded by Majority Leader Wilson Nyaga. Mr Nyaga is Muthambi Ward MCA.

The motion called for the allocation of enough land to put up county headquarters in Kathwana to enhance services.

The 55-acre piece of land had earlier been reserved for conservation activities under the now defunct Meru South County Council.

The MCAs set aside seven acres for county offices. They allocated another five acres for national government offices and 2.5 acres for the county assembly.

Police and the Judiciary have been allocated a total of 11.5 acres while the Kenya Wildlife Service and the Kenya Forest Service will get 1.5 acres.

A total of 6.3 acres has been set aside for recreation and conservation purposes.

“The national government team has been citing lack of land as the reason why they have remained in Chuka town since 2013. They have been allocated land to construct offices and should immediately move to the county headquarters for efficient delivery of services to the public,” said Mr Kiania.

He said Governor Samuel Ragwa and the assembly are working from Kathwana before the headquarters are built.
