Police in Bahati, Nakuru County, have launched investigations into the brutal murder of an 80-year-old man at Maili Sita area.

Area sub-county police commander Jecinta Mwarania confirmed the murder on Sunday night.

“We have launched investigations to establish the cause of the murder as nothing was stolen from the old man house,” said the police boss.

According to police,  heavily armed thugs broke into the house and slashed the victim with pangas, leaving him for dead.

The man was rushed to Nakuru Level Five Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment. A source at the scene of attack linked the murder to land dispute.

“The land on which the old man had built his house has been a subject of a bitter land dispute and this might be one of the reason for the attack as nothing was stolen from his house,” said a neighbour.

Majority of the land owners in the area are members of the Nakuru District Ex-Freedom Fighters Organisation (Ndeffo).

However, many have subdivided their farms into small plots which they sold to private developers.  This has seen a rise in land disputes which have seen a number of land owners killed mysteriously.
