Senior police officer dies in accident on Eastern bypass

A fatal accident on Wednesday afternoon claimed the life of a senior police officer after his Toyota Belta rammed a lorry along the Eastern Bypass, Ruiru at Kamakis in Kiambu county.

Harrison Muteti Katecho, who was the OCS Wang'uru Police Station in Kirinyaga County, according to police, lost control of his saloon car and rammed the lorry that had been parked on the left side of the road to pay tax at the Kiambu County cess collection point.

According to a police statement, Mr Muteti sustained chest and head injuries and was rushed to Ruiru Sub-county Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

“Both vehicles were moving from Ruai direction towards Thika Road when the driver of the saloon car due to unknown reasons lost control of his vehicle and rammed onto the rear of the lorry,” a police statement on the accident stated.

The lorry and saloon car, which was extensively damaged, were both towed to the Ruiru Police Station awaiting inspection while the body of the deceased was moved to the Kenyatta University mortuary.
