Mombasa governorship candidate Suleiman Shahbal has said he will continue to place his campaign posters on the town’s walls and buildings ahead of the August 8 polls.
Recently, social media users have been trolling him and demanding the removal of the posters terming them as an eyesore.
However, Mr Shahbal, who is the Jubilee candidate, defended his posters saying since it is electioneering period, politicians should be allowed to “deface” street walls and buildings.
He promised to remove and clean the defaced walls and buildings after elections are over.
“We are selling our manifestos in the best way possible. The same things happens in every election. We put posters and afterwards they are removed,” said Mr Shahbal.
The businessman urged Kenyans to tolerate politicians during the campaign period.
SELL MANIFESTO
Speaking Wednesday at Jambo Travellers Hotel in Mtwapa, Mr Shahbal said it is important for politicians to sell their manifestos through advertising.
“But we are sorry for those who feel offended or sad because of my posters. [You probably don’t] like my face [but] it will not be there forever. Give us two months only. It is not an eyesore. Everyone must use the available options and channels to sell his manifesto,” he said.
He added that a wind of change is sweeping across Mombasa County and that is why people are discussing his posters on social media.
Mr Shahbal says he is hopeful of winning in the August polls.
Most walls and buildings in the tourism hub are awash with his posters, among others by politicians seeking various seats.
