The county assembly of Laikipia has passed more than 10 laws this year.

This makes it one of the most active legislatures in the country, according to Speaker Patrick Mariru.

One of the laws gives members of the public the power to review interrogate development projects or any decision made by the county government that affects them.

Mr Mariru, who was addressing businesspeople at Mwireri trading centre in Umande ward, urged residents to take advantage of this particular law to champion their agenda.

CAREFULLY CRAFTED

“These laws have been carefully crafted and tailor-made to fit the needs of the people of Laikipia,” he said.

However, ward representative Mwangi Maruga said the Sh10 million allocated for the improvement of roads in the area was inadequate.

During a meeting with the county assembly’s committee on trade and tourism, residents said the recently graded roads could be eroded by rains.

Farmers also asked the county government to subsidise artificial insemination services to enable them to improve their livestock breed.
