Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana has refuted claims that he has sold part of the ICT Konza Techno-city to a neighbouring county.

Speaking on Tuesday during a validation forum on the County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP) in Wote, Prof Kibwana said such claims are unfounded and malicious.

“ICT Konza Techno-city is a government project on public land; how can I sell it to another county government?” he asked.

The governor said that those spreading the rumours did not have the people’s interest at heart and were out to ensure that the project was not be implemented in Makueni County.

Kilome MP Regina Ndambuki and County Speaker Steven Ngelu allegedly said that the county boss had sold part of Konza City to his counterpart in Machakos County.

Deputy Governor Adelina Mwau defended Prof Kibwana, saying that Makueni had able leaders who could oversee the building of the technology hub.

Ms Mwau accused those spreading the rumours of having political differences with the governor.

“The Kilome MP (Regina) started rumours that the governor had sold Konza City to Machakos County, since they have had differences during the Makueni by-election where he (Kibwana) supported Mutula Kilonzo Jnr,” the deputy governor told the forum.

She accused the Kilome MP of not cooperating with other leaders who were setting a five-year agenda for the county’s development.

Ms Mwau noted that Konza City was a government project whose land was already fenced, with the project set to start in December.

She said the project land could not be sold without involving the Ministry of Lands.
