What you need to know:

  • Over 600 elderly people from Kikuyu sub-county received food and drugs after medical check-up during celebrations that were to mark the International Day of Older Persons.

We should not tolerate those who neglect and abuse the elderly, a lobby group has said.

Mr Duncan Njoroge, a program manager at Naitera Community Empowerment Programme, said the elderly have many needs but are too weak to fend for themselves.

He urged children not to forget their parents and grandparents as they are the ones who raised them up.

RELEASE REPORT

Naitera is expected to release the results of a research titled ‘The Plight of the Elderly in Kiambu County’ that highlights cases of elderly people who are physically abused, fall sick, lack finances, food and shelter.

He was speaking during a free medical camp organised with Access Kenya International on Tuesday.
