Student killed in fight over girlfriend, another defiled in Kakamega

A Form Three student from Kakamega County has been arrested on suspicion of stabbing another to death in a fight over a girlfriend.

Kakamega East Sub-county Police Commander Robert Makau said police were investigating the Monday night incident at Lutoto village, Ilesi location.

Villagers said they were shocked when it was reported that the two fought over a Standard Eight pupil and that one died after being stabbed in the chest with a knife.

“Investigations will establish what triggered the fight,” said Mr Makau.

Shinyalu Assistant County Commissioner Mophat Moseti described the incident as unfortunate.

“We cannot allow our children to engage in shameful activities that lead to death. These are challenging times so parents should take up the responsibility to monitor what their children are involved in and guide them,” said the administrator.

Defilement case

In neighbouring Kakamega South Sub-county, a 76-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly defiling his granddaughter.

The suspect from Shivagala village reportedly lured the Standard Five pupil to his house and offered her Sh10.

He then locked himself up in the house with the girl and committed the crime. She reported the matter to her father who was away at the time of the incident.

 Shivagala Assistant Chief Naftali Mutsotso said the incident brought shame to the community.

“The suspect is an elder in a church and a widower. He has been engaging in suspect behaviour,” he said.
