At least five boda boda riders in Isiolo were Wednesday injured and their motorcycles destroyed by a rival group after they clashed over a terminus.

More than 20 riders who work from the Isiolo County Referral Hospital’s gate claimed that the rival group has been plotting ways of forcefully evicting them from their usual terminus for the last two months.

Isiolo hospital boda boda association chairman John Mutiga said almost 50 armed riders from the rival group carrying stones and crude weapons attacked them at around 9am.

Mr Mutiga blamed police officers for not taking any action against the suspects despite reporting them.

“They want us to leave to a certain terminus without any explanation.

“The law allows us to operate from anywhere. We have reported several times to Isiolo Police Station but no action has been taken,” said the chairman.

Mr Mutiga added that the operators have incurred losses following the attack and called on the county security team to arrest the culprits.

Those injured were treated at the Isiolo Referral Hospital for minor injuries.
