Deputy President William Ruto’s wife, Rachael, has thanked Kenyans for standing with his husband during the trial at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Speaking in Embu on Tuesday, Mrs Ruto said they were overwhelmed by the compassion and prayers from Kenyans during the entire period.

She said the cases had greatly affected the family but they were able to bear following the support they received from Kenyans.

“It is one thing to be in foreign land and be alone, but it is another thing to be in a foreign land where you are being accused and have people that are close to you who can just hold your hand and say it will be well. We shall not take that for granted because God put that burden in your heart,” said Mrs Ruto.

Embu Senator Lenny Kivuti and Deputy Governor Dorothy Nditi assured Mr Ruto of the region’s support in 2022, after President Uhuru Kenyatta retires.

MESSAGE TO RUTO

They said the DP had proved his mettle during the past three years of the Jubilee administration and would be suitable to succeed President Kenyatta.

“When you go back, tell the DP we are steadfast and we are aware of where we are going. When a nation is built on the foundation of prayers, it will remain strong,” said Ms Nditi.

Mr Kivuti said the Jubilee administration had no doubt that the case against the ‘Ocampo Six’ would be dropped, saying the allegations were baseless.

Mrs Ruto called on Kenyans to elect visionary and development-conscious leaders saying the Jubilee administration had shown exemplary leadership and should be given many more terms to serve the country.

“Even as political temperatures rise as we head to next year’s elections, we must be careful on the type of leaders that we will elect. We need visionary leaders able to unite Kenyans and to bring development in the country,” said Mrs Ruto.
