Safaricom’s Sh14.9 billion police communication tender is facing a fresh hurdle after a firm claiming to have been awarded the lucrative contract more than a decade ago moved to court seeking to commit the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) directors to civil jail for contempt of court.

Tetra Radio Ltd in an application filed Tuesday claims that the regulator awarded Safaricom the frequency for construction of the security communication system in breach of a valid court order that stopped it from allocating it to another company or party.
