The 2010 National Motocross Championship is set to come to a dramatic end at the Jamhuri Park racetrack on Sunday with riders determined to improve on their final ranking.

Newly crowned 2010 champion Ivan Guya hopes to uphold his winning touch at his MX85 specialty and the faster he does it the better for him.

Guya, who sealed the title during last month’s regional AMU in Nairobi, is riding on his second last race before graduating to the MX2 class next year.

Guya will also be at Garuga racetrack in Kampala in early December to defend his AMU Central Africa title. He will fight to eclipse fast rising Apollo Mbuki, Karan Sehmi, Ted Wanday and Masalule Kituyi.

Also riding in the MX85 class are the likes of Charles King’angi, Muthandi Wanjigi, Walter Kuria and Rohan Gandhi. The MX50 class promises thrills and frills with series leader David Murigi and Rolf Kihara going head to head.

There has been some good-natured rivalry with the two riders bantering over who will come out tops. Rolf has won the last two meetings at Jamhuri and will be out to attest that his two victories were not a fluke.

The MX50 class has attracted the likes of Ryan bailey Maina Wanjigi, George Kyriazi, Tendo Karago, Benni Kahumbura and Jesse Waithaka.

Yamaha 450 four-stroke expert Shivam Vinayak has the 2010 MX1 championship in the bag but is keyed up to take the fight to Charles Mugo (Honda 450), Moses Mugo (KTM 525) and Harry Guelker (Honda).

Battle for supremacy

The battle for supremacy at MX2 will revolve around cousins Tutu Maina and Cruze Muigai.

Ken Anunda, Adil Khan, Allan Maina and JJ Kahumbura will also be fighting to finish at respectable position in the MX2 tussle. Tutu has won two rounds (5th and 6th) with Muigai winning five rounds to his credit.

Newly-crowned MX65 champion Samir Anwar is spurred on by being the only rider so far with a flawless score of 420 points. Others lining up against Anwar’s 100 per cent score are his sibling Mohammed Anwar, Githuku Mungai, Jeremy Waitahaka and Murigu Njiiri.
