Carl Tundo on the brink of KNRC title

  • Newly crowned ARC winner just needs a top-10 finish tomorrow to clinch Kenyan championship

Twenty cars will be flagged off on Sunday from 9am in the last round of the 2021 KCB Kenya National Rally Championship with Carl Tundo all but guaranteed of the national title.

Tundo, the newly crowned African Rally Champion, needs a top-10 finish in the KCB Guru Nanak Rally tomorrow to clinch his sixth KNRC title.

The Kenyan rallying great is seeded number three in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo10.

Aakif Virani, who was awarded the KCB Nanyuki Rally victory by the Kenya Motor Sports Federation Appeals Board, is seeded at number one in a Škoda Fabia.

Virani had lodged an official protest at the end of the rally accusing Tundo of having received outside help before he  was declared the winner.

Patel, who missed the last round of the series, is seeded at number two in a Ford Fiesta.

Baldev Chager, the former Safari Rally winner is seeded number four in a VW Polo.

Ranveet Thetthy (No 18, Subaru Impreza) and Sammer Nanji (No19, VW Golf) will be making their rally debuts.

Both drivers are well known autocross competitors.

Rains forced the organisers of the Guru Nanak Rally to make changes  at the last minute.

Il Bisil will host two competitive stages that will be raced twice. The longest stage will be 60 kilometres.

The start and finish of the rally will now be at Il Bisil.

The total competitive distance is about 154km. The longest stage is 60.41km while the shortest one is 16.81km.

Organisers will only allow eight members of each of the teams including the driver and his navigator in the service park  following Covid-19 protocols.
