Three goalkeepers will be missing in action when Kenya plays Zambia in an international friendly match at the refurbished Nyayo National Stadium on October 13.
Veteran Zambian goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene has asked coach Milutin “Micho” Sredojevic to excuse him from the team.
Zambia’s Daily Mail quotes Mweene as saying he is not ready to play for the national team again unless the Football Association of Zambia “fix their things”.
In his place, Chipolopolo goalkeeping coach Miroslav Stojnic has called four local-based custodians; Jackson Kakunta, Lameck Siame, Sebastian Mwange, and Richard Nyirenda.
Keep calm
Stojnic has called for calm. He said: “I have over 25 years of experience working with goalkeepers, and my specialisation is grooming young keepers."
Mweene, 35, has enjoyed a glittering international career spanning 16 years. The highlight is winning the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon. The Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper boasts of 121 appearances and two goals.
