Oliveira had been barred by from overseeing continental matches due to lack of Caf 'A' license or Uefa Pro its equivalent. He returned to his mother land to upgrade his papers.

"I have a lot of experience in Africa. I worked before in two countries, Angola and Ethiopia, I played Confederation Cup and Champions League and now I come to Gor Mahia because they are a big club," he added.

He has been in charge of St George of Ethiopia and Angolan club Clube Recreativo Desportivo do Libolo. He also had a short stint at FC Famalicao'sUnder 23 team in Portugal from September 2019 to June 2020.

At FC Famalicao, Vaz Pinto had a dismal performance wining only four matches out of the 26 he oversaw at the club.
